In this series, we take a look at some of the bright and knowledgeable people behind our success here at AdEdge Water Technologies and see how they tackle their day-to-day challenges. Today we are here with applications engineer Di Jiang.

Since AdEdge is a company with big diversity, I have the chance to hear voices and opinions from different cultures, which is always a pleasant experience.

What are your morning habits?
My morning habit is drinking a cup of green tea, and listening to a podcast on my way to the company. I don’t snooze in the morning but sometimes it is hard to beat in the afternoon. I buy breakfast mostly.

What’s the first thing you do when you get in to the office?
Getting coffee and checking my inbox while eating breakfast. Sometimes I’ll scan through some news that came out last night.

How did you get into your particular field?
I’ve loved chemistry since high school. I was born in a town near lots of bodies of water, so I have deep connection with water as well. In college, I studied geochemistry and then I decided to go towards a more practical direction. Therefore I chose engineering as my master’s degree, then become an environmental engineer specialized in water.

How did you end up working at AdEdge?
I was participating in a poster competition hosted by Georgia Tech with my master’s research, when the CEO of AdEdge, Rich Cavagnaro, also attended the event. We had some good conversations regarding my experience and my posters. After a few weeks I came to AdEdge for an interview and become an employee.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most at my work is the feeling of accomplishment it gives me when the systems I designed are selected, and when my projects are in place producing clean drinking water for numerous communities. That’s a little favor I can do to the world.

What does a typical lunch hour look like for you?
At lunch I will eat together with my coworkers in the office. We try to get away from work topics and talk about interesting events, movies, all kinds of fun things we did or will do. Since AdEdge is a company with big diversity, I have the chance to hear voices and opinions from different cultures, which is always a pleasant experience.

How do you combat the afternoon slump?
I will drink hot green tea to stimulate myself. Sometimes I will take a small walk around the company, or pay a quick visit to the QT near our building to refresh myself.

What are some challenges or obstacles you face?
Tight scheduling and multi-tasking are always stressful. Learning to build a balance, distribute reasonable time/source/energy among all my tasks is a hard, but meaningful mission. Understanding the difference between the academic world and the engineering world is also another big challenge for me during the first year of my career.

What music are you listening to this week?
I’ve been listening to an Iceland musician called Low Roar all week.

Do you keep any unique possessions at your desk?
Nope. My desk is a mess.
