In this new series, we take a look at some of the bright and knowledgeable people behind our success here at AdEdge Water Technologies and see how they tackle their day-to-day challenges. Today we are here with Martin Lawrence, a technical sales engineer with AdEdge.
What is your role at AdEdge?
I am a technical sales engineer, and I cover the middle of the country border-to-border. I travel all over my territory attending water treatment conferences and meeting with end users and consulting engineers to get the word out about the wide array of processes AdEdge has to offer that can help communities with their water treatment issues.
What are some of your morning habits?
I hit the snooze button, but I use the snooze period to catch up on the news and what is happening around the world instead of going back to sleep. After walking my dog, the first thing I do is make a strong cup of coffee using locally roasted beans from Tampa.
What's the first thing you do when you get in to the office?
I log into our CRM (customer relationship management system) to get an idea of what I need to follow up on that day.
How did you get into your particular field?
Although I received a degree in chemical engineering, I didn’t want to end up in a rotational field position with a chemical company or a 24/7 on-call position with an oil and gas company. So I extended my job search out to a broad range of engineering professions. The only two criteria that had to be met were: the job had to be interesting and technically challenging, and the position had to be relatively close to Gainesville, Florida, where my girlfriend at the time was finishing graduate school. Luckily, I ended up finding a process engineering position in the water treatment industry, and years later I married the girl I moved down to be closer to.
What do you enjoy most about your job at AdEdge?
Since I spend a great deal of time traveling throughout my territory, I get to meet a lot of people from all walks of life. The part of my job that I enjoy the most has to be seeing the positive impact our treatment systems have on communities and on the people that rely on clean drinking water. Everyone is entitled to safe, clean drinking water, and it’s great to work for a company whose main goal is to provide that very thing.
