In this series, we take a look at some of the bright and knowledgeable people behind our success here at AdEdge Water Technologies and see how they tackle their day-to-day challenges. Today we are here with Media Sales and Media Services Manager Randy Roberts.

I am most proud when I talk to my daughter about what I do. She loves to brag that her Daddy 'helps make clean water.' That is the best feeling in the world.

What is your role at AdEdge?
Aftermarket Media Sales and Media Services. I also handle a lot of spare parts sales, whatever the customer needs.

What are your morning habits? Do you snooze?
I chill with a cup of coffee and look out over the lake during sunrise. There’s no better way to start fresh than chilling watching all the deer, fish, birds and a multitude of other critters frolic by the shore while the sun’s reflection shines in my face off the water. It’s pure bliss!

How did you get into your particular field?
I worked part time in the aquarium industry while in college and that taught me about water quality and processes to improve it. I have always had a passion for technology and aquatic animals. I dissected a shark in first grade while in the first year of Georgia’s new gifted program back in 1979 I believe. I have been fascinated with sharks, corals and other aquatic sea creatures since. The processes we use in the municipal market are the same as the aquarium industry, just much smaller. Ultimately I would like to work in both industries to help improve our planet’s water supply.

How did you end up working at AdEdge?  What do you enjoy most about your job?
After college and at the ripe old age of 36, I stumbled on a “help wanted” sign on the side of the road. I met with Cliff Nelsen, then Director of Operations, and was hired on the spot for an assistant assemblyman position. I worked in manufacturing for five years before moving into the office running the residential department. Since then, the department has grown into two individual media sales and residential sales. I enjoy what I do because I have been given the trust and freedom to develop our aftermarket sales and ultimately help the customer.

What does a typical lunch hour look like for you?
TACOS!!!!

How do you combat the afternoon slump?
I try to handle the tedious tasks first thing in the morning and leave the more “fun” tasks for the afternoon. It doesn’t always work that way but when it does, it makes the end of the day seem more productive.

What do you feel most proud of in your job?
I am most proud when I talk to my daughter about what I do. She loves to brag that her Daddy “helps make clean water.” That is the best feeling in the world.

Do you keep any unique possessions at your desk?
I have a wind up dancing monkey that a former co-worker gave me before she left. It is a symbol of what we have to go through sometimes to make some customers happy. I thought it was very funny.
